Dolley Madison, (1768-1849). First Lady known for her social graces. Autograph Statement Signed ‘DP Madison’ in excellent condition. She writes:

“A Toast prepared by Mr Madison for the 4th of July 1798.
‘The Union. May it find an everlasting cement in the face of the Revolution, and the sacredness of the Constitution.’
DP Madison, Washington April 19th, 1848”

This special note is beautifully written in Dolley Madison’s hand regarding a 4th of July toast prepared by her husband James Madison at an earlier time. Affixed to the top of the letter is James Madison’s signature, which she thoughtfully included with the note. A choice combination!
